How to reset your device

Protect your personal data by restoring your device to factory settings before sending it to us.

Apple

iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

  1. Back up your data (optional). Use iCloud or iTunes/Finder so you can restore later if needed.
  2. Open Settings and tap your name at the top, then tap Sign Out. Enter your Apple ID password and choose to turn off Find My and remove the device from your account.
  3. Return to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase All Content and Settings.
  4. Enter your passcode and confirm. If asked, enter your Screen Time passcode or Apple ID password to disable Activation Lock.
  5. Wait for the device to erase. When it restarts at the "Hello" setup screen, it is ready to donate.

Make sure Find My is off and the device is no longer linked to your Apple ID. Otherwise the device may be locked when it reaches us.

Android

Samsung, Pixel, Motorola, and other Android phones

  1. Back up your data (optional). Use Google One, Samsung Cloud, or your preferred backup service.
  2. Open Settings > Accounts (or Google) and remove any Google, Samsung, or other accounts listed.
  3. If you have Samsung or another manufacturer account, sign out of that account as well.
  4. Go to Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset. (On Pixel: Settings > System > Reset options > Erase all data.)
  5. Tap Reset and confirm. Enter your PIN, pattern, or password if prompted.
  6. Wait for the device to erase and reboot. When it shows the welcome/setup screen, it is ready to donate.

Make sure all Google and manufacturer accounts are removed. Otherwise the device may be locked when it reaches us.
